For over a century, the game of basketball has played a significant role in the lives of thousands of Illinois residents. From high school gyms in small rural towns to large collegiate arenas in metropolitan areas, basketball has created decades of unforgettable memories and traditions in the state.
When the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association was formed in 1971, the vision was to have a permanent building to display and tell the rich history of all levels of basketball played in the state. The Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame Museum, located in the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville, will combine video, exhibits, interactive presentations, photographs and memorabilia to allow generations of basketball fans to re-live those special basketball moments. A feature attraction of the museum will honor the players, coaches, officials, teams, media and others enshrined by the IBCA who have impacted the game.
The Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame Museum, targeted for 2013, is a private, not-for-profit corporation in partnership with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. The museum will operate solely on contributions by private and corporate benefactors and individuals.
